OHSA defines blood borne pathogens as contaminated waste (blood or fluid containing a pathogen regulated waste) and other potentially infectious material. Hazards include, but are not limited to, exposure to blood borne diseases such as HIV or Hepatitis B and C.
OHSA also recommends taking universal precautions which include simple actions such as frequent hand washing to complex treatments such as vaccinations. OHSA also recommends developing and “Exposure Control Plan” for the workplace.
